G sync 144hz

So I just swapped my monitor for a 144hz g sync and it's awesome

When playing bf4 the frames go up to 200

Which is over 144 obvs

How does that work with g sync enabled or have I done something wrong ?

I thought that for g-sync to work you have to be within a certain range, say 40Hz to 144Hz but I could be wrong.

if youre over 144fps that means youre not using gsync at all, it behaves like a regular monitor

gsync only adjusts framerate between 30 and 144hz, so over 144 you might get screen tearing

it is enabled but it still pushes past 144 fps

then you would get some stuttering, because thats basically just vsync

 

gsync only really takes effect when your fps drops below your monitors refresh rate

 

if youre fine with 200 fps and dont notice any tearing or issues then just leave it as it is

Ok so I guess me question is sync meant to Capp ur refresh rate to ur monitor rate ?

vsync caps your fps at your monitors refresh rate

gsync changes your monitor's refresh rate to match your fps, but cant make your monitor go above 144 or below 30

capping it might cause stuttering, uncapping it might cause tearing

try both and stick to the one you find gives the best exerience

So as a fellow gsync owner this is what you need to know. If gsync is on and working then the frame rate can never exceed the monitors refresh rate maximum (144hz), it acts like vsync on at the top end. So if you are seeing fps of 200hz then something is wrong and its not working correctly. You need to ensure that in the Nvidia control panel that the global vsync setting reads gsync and that the gsync section has it enabled. In the gsync section it tells you what you need set and it even has some links to get you there. Normally its just automatic but they have the manual settings for a reason.

 

Also in games use vsync = off. A lot of games put weird behaviour to manage the FPS with vsync on and gsync in my experience always works better with it off.

In the v sync there is no option just off and on smooth, but the box is ticked in the set up g sync section and under monitor tech it also says g sync

No that isn't right, should be in three places (the gsync click, the monitor and the vsync section). Try reinstalling the drivers with clean set and maybe it will recognise this properly.

I have been seeing people on reddit complaining about SLI in Windows 10 causing problems, the latest drivers seem to have broken a variety of setups (not mine thankfully).

I don't get any tearing tho which is strange

If I enable v sync to on

The g sync indicator comes on in game and it's working fine

Can verify gsync works with windows 10 and sli.

Gsync has to be enabled in the nvidia control panel. It will sync each frame to each refresh, up to the monitors max refresh where if you get exact 144fps@144hz, it will behave like vsync on. Not that you will care about vsync input lag @ 144fps or not that you will hold 144fps for very long on any game. IF fps is going over the monitors max refresh rate - gsync is NOT enabled.

 

Dont worry about the minimum, gsync does multiple refresh tricks at very low fps. You still wont see tearing or stutters, regardless how low your fps.... you`ll just experience low fps.

 

While ingame vsync has to be off everywhere.

So I did a lot of research today

And found out from a pcper video that

Gsync is not in the v sync menu as u can run both now at the same time

The way it works is if g n v sync are on when u hit ur monitor max refresh rate it caps

But it u disable v sync with G on

When u surpass ur monitor refresh rate it acts as a normal monitor for pro games who need minimum lag

This was straight out of the nvdia reps mouth so please don't anyone tell me this is wrong and i will provide the link if u wish for further proof
