Is it still worth it to bother with Twitch streaming?

minimoose

As most everyone knows it's not worth it to start a YouTube channel at this point unless you have a unique never before seen idea. This is simply due to the insane volume of people uploading let's plays or whatever.

I'm kind of intrigued by twitch streaming as it seems it would be kind of fun, but I'm wondering how saturated twitch is at this point and if it's even worth bothering, obviously I can just play my games and if anyone watches then great, but there isn't much point if there's no hope of gaining an audience, becoming rich and famous not being a goal here.

Let me know your thoughts!

As long as it doesn't take too long to setup I don't really see an issue with doing it for fun.

You need one of these two in order for people to watch:
1) Be insanely good at it

2) Have a fun personality

Or if you want to hit the jackpot- both.

It's ok to suck if your videos are funny. But being mediocre just won't cut it anymore.

Best of luck.

My friend was streaming us play CS:GO for no reason, we attracted a small crowd, but I had no idea he was streaming until he started reading questions from the stream.
We were playing deathmatch using only certain weapons each round, for example p2000, Deagle, Tec-9, awp, scout etc. only and it attracted some people. :)

Who knows, I mean, if you have some pals who are into goofing off on a multiplayer game, then you could have some fun with it. I'm sure some random people will just tune in for whatever reason. teampgp (Professionals Gaming Poorly) is a prime example of this. They don't have any goals for the channel, they just find it fun, they suck at whatever they play and people tune in if they feel like it. They get around 50-70 viewers at any one time, which is pretty good for a starting-out twitch stream (although, Wendell is from Tek Syndicate), so....

People go on youtube to show off in one way or another, people can go on Twitch and just stream for the lulz, and it doesn't even have to cost any money, either, so if you have some free time to kill and want to show off how bad you are at a game so that everyone can have a good laugh, then I'd say go for it! Going into twitch for monetary or social gain is not gonna get you anywhere. It's just fun.

Personally I watch Twitch streamers for their personality. Sometimes I won't even be watching the stream, just hearing the streamer's voice and them discussing things about the game or interacting with chat is enough for me to stay tuned in.

There's no harm trying out to see if you're going to attract a crowd or not. It also depends on which games you'll be streaming. Streaming CSGO probably won't help, but streaming more niche games could attract a more stable crowd of fans.

See no reason not, i found a few people that play similar games watching the stream and got a few to play. If you get 10 viewers

You're doing good in my book.

I stream while I skype with a friend of mine, we are both funny I'd say and we have funny stuff happen to us all the time so it makes for a good stream :P Another one of my friends I actually met through twitch, he was watching my stream and I told him to add me on steam. If you're doing it just for money don't even bother. If you want some good lulz go for it.

Unless you've got boobs, I don't see a way that you'll get a larger audience. If you have boobs on the other hand... (Only female though, moobs aren't very popular :D) In that case, get the shirt with the deepest cleavage you can find and point the camera slightly downwards

Molex to SATA, lose all your data

Well, the consensus seems to be that if I'm good at the game and am having fun then I should go for it. Is OBS still the best free way to stream? Also I generally prefer singleplayer games, are those less popular? I can kick butt at BF4 or BF3.

Cause boobs. I don't watch streamers like that because they always have annoying high pitched voices.

Actually I think singleplayer games would work better because you can interact with the chat more.

there are a lot of twitch streamers that arent interesting/funny/have terrible personalities, and are absolutely terrible at the game, but have several thousand subs(or more) because they have huge tits that the camera is focused on, and take up more space on the screen than the game they are playing.  (those of you that watch LoL streams know EXACTLY who im talking about).

You could try. Every known streamer started from 10 viewers to 20k.

i honestly dont know.  i love boobs, i really do, but if im watching a stream, i want to see gameplay, i even prefer if they dont have a camera at all, unless its like a horror game and i get to see them freak the fuck out.    if i want to see boobs, ill go look at actual porn, or beg ask my GF.
