PSU for sli gtx 980-ti and i7-4790k ?

TheHolyCawCaw

Ahoi : )

As the title announces I am looking for a PSU that can handle sli 980-ti and a i7-4790k.  Overclocking will naturally take place !

What price range are we talking about and how much W does it really needs?

That would be it ! ( Well instead of posting a new topic elsewhere you can tell me what mobo would be great for this combination and overclocking the parts !)

As always, thanks in advance !

you'd be fine with a 750watt psu and as for the psu you can get a good one for around $50-$70, but i recommend the evga GS or G2 for the psu

Spoiler

My system is the Dell Inspiron 15 5559 Microsoft Signature Edition

750/850W or above.

I recommend the RM750, after having tried both the RM750 and the EVGA 750 G2 - the Corsair one is dead quiet, while the EVGA one is IMHO as loud as a powersupply gets. To satisfy RM haters, get the RMi series instead, but I can't say anything about that, other than me and my friend thinks Corsair powersupplies are dead quiet.

CPU: I7 4790K(4.6@1.252v)                               Case: Fractal Design Define R5 Windowed(Black)           Cooler: CM 212 EVO + NF F12 iPPC

RAM: HyperX Fury 1600MHZ CL10 2x4GB      Storage: Samsung 850 EVO(250GB) + WD Red(2TB)      PSU: Corsair RM750 (and no, it hasn't blown up!)

MoBo: Asus Maximus VII Ranger                      Graphics: MSI GTX 970 TwinFrozr (1494MHZ Core)       OS: Windows 10 Enterprise

Eco mode on, fan started spinning after 30 mins of gaming, louder than the rest of the system. Bearing noise.

PSU must of been faulty somehow, my 1000 p2 has the same eco mode feature, and when I was running my 3930k @ 4.9 ghz and 2 780's @ 1.325v under water, the fan would barely even turn on then after an hour of benchmarking valley and I was pulling over 800w from the wall.

Now with just my 4770k @ 4.7 1.33v and 980 at 1580 mhz, it takes atleast 3 hours for the fan to turn on, and it barely spins at all.

There are more things that just how quiet something is.

Corsair powersupplies are also overpriced

Good options that are cheaper than the RMi

Might also be stuff like higher ambient temperatures or bad air flow through the case.

But yeah the EVGA Supernova series got a fair pit of praise for being so high quality and silent so something aint right.

Something is definitely wrong yeah, I've never seen anyone complain about the G2 lineup when they had eco mode on before :o

Completely aware of the price.. 10$ more is killing people :P *no offense, also prices may vary)

I made compromises. The 750G2 was cheaper, RMA'd 3 times before getting Corsair, worked first time. I am aware of the slightly worse secondary capacitors, but it's not gonna blow up on you anytime soon. The 750G2 is a spectacular unit, performing insanely well when being pushed, but it just didn't work for me.

18C winter, Define R5 with fans at 80%. Fan mounted to the bottom, tested outside the case too.

Their RMA service was awesome, something must have been faulty with my units, but I didn't dare to go through more of them just to be disappointed yet again. For my use, the RM750 is perfect - dead silent and efficient(enough) while being just 10$ more.
