What should i do ?

Go to solution Solved by ApolloX75,

What mobo should i get? the z87 or the z97 ? i'm pretty tight on money is the z97 necessary?

Z87 will work but there is the slight chance it won't have the BIOS update for Devils Canyon out of the box. Z97 supports DC right out of the box. It really depends on how long stock has been on the shelf.

I bought an Asus Z87-A off a seller on ebay and it had the latest BIOS update for DC, and that was six months ago. But then others have bought from Newegg and the like and had issues.

Z87 and Z97 perform similar, just Z97 has some newer features.

Hello guys,

I have a bit of a problem.

so first of all these are my specs: FX-6100, R9 290 (Recently purshased), 8 GB RAM, Asrock extreme 4 mobo, 550 golden labeled be quiet psu.

Alright, So i i'm a big fan of star citizen and all the future games coming out. Now, I want to upgrade my CPU and Mobo because of the bottleneck, and i think intel is just better when it comes to games like arma etc.

Now, The thing is i dont know if it's worth to upgrade now. example if i upgrade now i may be able to play almost all games High - ultra. but then again if star citizen will come out next year (If it doesn't it will be big no matter what.) It may need better hardware because i really would like to play that game on ultra or high. Also with the new ram's coming out next year star citizen will take full potential of that. The thing is should i wait till next year? I will never get the newest card's because it's simply too expensive for me, but is it worth waiting another year (7 - 8 months) for example waiting till the 980, r9 390 and i7's drop in price?

Thankyou.

New RAM is alright out (DDR4) and there is virtually no difference performance wise. Get the upgrade and you won't regret it. Also your 290 is actually quite capable of playing the game even in its alpha state.

Looks good! may i ask what cpu you have and brand your r9 290 is? nvm checked your profile tought the vid wasnt yours. i went with asus OC edition and i heared they are pretty shitty compared to all the other brands, might been a rumour idk.

Yep, get a 4460. Even an i3 4170 like I have in my system is no bottleneck to the 290. And the 290 is still a hell of a card, after all it competes with the 970 and R9 390.

Well, if i'm going to upgrade i might as well do it good. i'll get the i5 4960K + aftermarket cooler for a bit of overcloking. ;)
