You can run most source games on Linux.

I'm going to have linux on my new build for a couple months until I can save up for windows. Can Linux run the standard f2p games like tf2, dota 2, smite, LoL, etc?

Have you checked to see if they are on linux?

use steam to check if your games are available on Linux, 80% of steam games work on linux due to there new steamOS.
