Skylake and bang for the buck are 2 completely opposite things - 4460 + 8GB DDR3 would have been better in terms of price:performance

was it a bad call or.....?

No idea - do you NEED the newest "shiny"?

For me it's not worth when DDR4 is a marginal improvement over DDR3 and the 6600K is only 10% faster than Haswell.

I'm also not planning on upgrading and I guarantee you both of us won't need to upgrade for the next few years. 6600K's longevity won't be higher than a 4690K or a 4460 - that's why I'm saying I don't deem it worth it - it's a small improvement for a large investment.

It's not a fuck up - you still have a good CPU and RAM combo - just next time look for the best price:performance BEFORE buying :)

actually, i've priced it out with a local retailer, and for me skylake would be about €32 more expensive than haswell. (when going K parts offcourse)

i feel like its just the online retailers PCPP pulls from that make their prices ridonkulous...

theres a cooler on PCPP that was listed as $150 for a while, while only costing €50 at my local retailer...

Usually but it strongly depends on the use and line-up we're talking about

A 6600k will last longer than the 4690k and much longer than the 4460. The 4460 will not last anywhere near as long because it is locked at 3.2ghz

I priced out a skylake build on newegg and all same parts on pcpp and newegg pricing was $300 US less than pcpp!!
