Yes, this has been asked all around and then some.

Just like usual, which brands would be best (Gigabyte, ASUS, EVGA, MSI, Zotac...) and why.

 

Atm, i'm looking at the GTX 780ti, great card for a great price (budget OP), would go for the 970, but the VRAM issue and it's slower than the 780ti.

 

Ok, so i'm looking at either the Gigabyte Windforce edition, which i have the R9 270x atm, it's big and bulky (would need something to secure it so it won't bend), but even thos it has 3 fans and a big a** heatsink, the cooling doesn't seem that good. Friend told me that EVGA has great coolers, like the ACX cooler (the superclocked version). So i came here to ask around, i could buy the Gigabyte one which is cheaper by a bit and then later on buy a watercooler or DIY a CPU cooler on it xD

 

Thoughts?

i had x2 780 ti's running in sli in my old rig and they ran hot as hell! well over 75 degrees during games. i wouldn't buy those cards again.

The 970 is better than the 780Ti but if you're worried about 3.5GB get the 390

the 970 has more VRam than the 780ti, and the 970 has partial native dx12 feature support. If you're worried about price and Vram, than a 390 would be the best value for the money, and has full native DX12_0 feature support (although its missing support for the two features from DX12_1).

That's not really that hot. Hot for a modern card I would say would be 80+ but 480s ran at 103 in 4 way SLI and 90 with single way

That's not really that hot. Hot for a modern card I would say would be 80+ but 480s ran at 103 in 4 way SLI and 90 with single way

 

i forgot to mention that they got up to 90 degrees as well during games. 75 would be the absolute minimum. they were from ASUS

the 970 has more VRam than the 780ti, and the 970 has partial native dx12 feature support. If you're worried about price and Vram, than a 390 would be the best value for the money, and has full native DX12_0 feature support (although its missing support for the two features from DX12_1).

No offence, but i had too many issues with AMD, the drivers are bad, random crashes from doing literally nothing, just crashes cause it's bored and their support...jesus it's like going to the zoo and trying to communicate with monkeys and the monkeys would give better support...

 

Well, it has 4GB of VRAM...well, 3.5GB, i know the last 500MB is locked or whatever, Nvidia thought we'd get too much for the price so it locked the poor 500MB i guess :/

It's perfectly understandable, everyone has difference experiences. I used Nvidia for over 10 years, but switched to AMD 2 years ago for the exact reasons: Random nvidia driver crashing, new drivers every week that may or may not be stable, always upgrading my graphic card... I have had almost no issues in the past 2 years, which has been a relief. I guess it's a matter of perspective.

LoL, sorta same with me, i mean, i had a GTS 450 and another geforce which i can't really remember, but both of them died in the first month, chip somehow fried w/o any overclock or anything, just died, had no issues with ATI and now have issues with AMD...

 

But yeah, i'd go for the 970, but the VRAM issue is bad, if i go over the 3.5GB usage, i'm f***ed xD

So yeah, i'll stick to the 780ti for now.

You may want to look up why and how that last .5gb of vram is used last, not locked, if you are worried about it. Also if you are looking into that level of performance its not like you'll be using all that vram anyways.
