SSD vs HDD for ubuntu and steam

It depends on how many games you want. When you say some I think that implies only a couple. That would make the ssd the best choice.

I want an internal drive that i can carry around with ubuntu and some steam games. For 70 euros i can get a Seagate barracuda 1tb 3.5" hdd or a wd  scorpio black 500gb 2.5" hdd or a sandisk 64gb 2.5" ssd. For 90 euros i can get a samsung 840 120gb or a wd caviar black 1tb or a seagate nb 500gb 2.5" sshd.

What should i get?

I am a member of the PCMasterRace. I am terribly sad to announce that I own a PeasantStation 3 Super Slim. it's in a drawer away from my glorious PC.

Get the samsung SSD, then add an HDD later when you have some more money or you run out of space.

Os and programs should go on a SSD

Movies, music, pictures, data etc should go on a HDD

Games can go both ways

A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing

Definetley go for the ssd first. You will see a massive speed increase opening up programs, booting up, and a bunch of other things as well. With games, you may run out of space pretty quickly, so then get a hard drive. Use your SSD for your boot drive, and your HD for media and games. Learn more about it here:

He is talking about something to carry around with him, so I don't think the "get an SSD now and add an HDD if you run out if space" is applicable here.

Honestly, check out how much space you need first, if the SSD is big enough, go with the SSD. It will not only be a lot faster, it will be a lot safer to carry around as well. If an SSD won't cut it in space terms, than get a hard drive, but make sure to get some protective case for it, they aren't exactly meant to be carried around.
