hi i posted a question about my overheating cpu not long ago. and since then i have bought a new cooler upgrading from cooler master tx3 to be quiet dark rock 3 pro.

but still my cpu runs pretty warm and i cant figure out why. can it be bad thermal compound inside the cpu ?.

as it is now with the dark rock cooler and the thermal compound it came with i get a good

30-40degrees on hwmonitors "cpu" temp

around 20-30 on the package

and around 30 on the mobo IDLE

with prime 95 running and the same with demanding games and 3dmark the cpu runs at around 60-63 and package around 50-60.

i tryed the automatic overclock from asus and got to 4.2 at 1.3V then i was back at the 65 degres that i had on stock clock with the tx3 cooler.

and the weird thing. yesterday when using prime95 i put my hand on the cooler and barley warm, but still 60 degrees on the cpu

What cpu? Some have poor thermal paste between the silicon die and the top metal cap on the cpu. My sandy bridge for example, it doesnt have this issue. The cap and die are soldered together. For one that isnt soldered, you can "delid" the cpu. Look it up before trying though

None of these temperatures (except maybe 40*C if that's an actual idle temperature) are particularly high. A mere 60*C in Prime95 sounds almost impossibly low to me.

Damn! My 3930k has 5w more and folds at 60 degrees on a 212 evo

yeah exactly why i feel its to warm and if the cpu is so damn warm wouldnt the cooler be really warm ?

Because your hand isn't very accurate way to measure temps. And because of the way heatsinks work. Its hot near CPU and gets cooler farther away. The heatpipes are filled with liquid which transfers heat away from CPU and to fins. On top of cooler liquid is coolest and so are the fins.
