Nvidia GTX 970 3GB GDDR5? Not 4?

Flashie
Go to solution Solved by DarkBlade2117,

Because it's actually 3.5GB?

No it has 4GB. The last .5 is just slow and almost unusable.

So i was in steam big picture - and i have a MSI GTX 970 Armour, which is supposed to have 4GB GDDR5 vram, but steam says 3? Why is this?

almost

It's still there, and can be used, it just slows things down.

So it's useless, there's no reason to use it the other 0.5Gb

Yes, but we're not saying that it's good to use. Just that it's there and that the card is still 4GB, not 3.5GB.

Except that's not how it works.  The last 0.5GB is only slow IF the same operation (Write + Write/ Read + Read) happen at the same time for BOTH partitions.  One Read + Write and Write + Read will not manifest this issue.
