Hey guys, I'm worried, I don't know what to do in the future, I love computers and also math, I wanted to do or Civil Engineering or Computer Engineering, but I want my job to be something I enjoy, and people who can give me advise? Any engineers out there?

I'm an electrical engineer, computer engineers are similar to electrical engineers they just are more specialized and code more often than EEs so you'll do a lot of work with digital systems communications and control systems most likely

I am in Electrical Engineering and its in some fashion a combination of all things electronics including computers and it involves some civil Engineering type work

EE sounds interesting...

It mainly depends on what you have interest in for Civil you will need to do a fairly broad amount of courses like statics and dynamics, soils analysis, concrete analysis, hydrodynamics, water treatment, and the sorts. I did that for a fair bit of time before a switched out since it was far broader than what I personally wanted but if you like to d a lot of different things it's a good way to branch off.

EE sounds interesting...

You can start as an EE and easily switch to CE as they are similar in course requirements in most places, CEs are just more specialized

Now for what I do right now I'm working on a magnetic levitation device with high precision digital control, CE's I know do similarly cool things such as submersable robotics and other EEs I know are making a grenade like emp for a project

Hmmm, I prefer Hardware, not software, Is EE better than CE in this matter?

Generally yes, you'll still code some but CE's do more coding on average( oh and by CE I always mean computer just to clarify)

In my EE clases I have worked with allot of LED's, motors, switching devices, computers, but I also learned how to set up power grids in building and how many lights are needed in a cretin area.

Don't jump straight into Computer Engineering, think carefully first about all branches of engineering.

I initially wanted to go into IT but then found out that Mechanical was my jam, even though I loved computers.

EE sounds more interesting than CE (I know it's Computer Engineering lol), I might put that on the list too...

I'm sure you can check them out in more detail at the colleges you're considering

My mom is a software engineer and so is my sister (shes in college for it) if you know how to code well then it would be great for you!

To add to this is the job field with Computer engineering going to be stable in like 2020?  2025?  2030?

Will there be a job with the whole computers are disappearing we need programmers thing be true?

My uncles a programmer and he told me to become a programmer I just find it to simple even teens do it and even with that he says that computer engineering is going to be hard to find a job?

I changed my career path to optometry after this can someone give me some insight?

The one problem with IT careers in general is that everyone and their brother wants to do it, so the job prospects tend to decrease.

Traditional careers like Civil and Mechanical will always be around.

I've even heard that Agricultural engineers are in high demand and get paid big money because nobody considers doing it.

Look for the branch that is the most interesting, as diverse as possible and will have ongoing demand.

I have a tip

take a digital clock apart, put it in a suitcase and bring it to school

make sure it looks as suspicious as possible(I recommend getting a spray tan) so someone calls the police

That's how you get into college for free
