Slow down torrenting/down speed

Hi

My brother has been peeving me off for the past few days - to the point that i cannot evens watch a video on 240p on youtube without it buffering anymore, on our near 6mbps line. This is utterly annoying and the reason for it happening - is him torrenting movies and games to his PC.

I myself dont torrent and dont plan on starting either - but I'd like to know if theres something (other than beating the snot out of him, or pulling his ethernet cord out, or getting a QOS router) that i can do, to lessen the absolutely insane amount of lag, buffering and ping i get as a result of his doings.

Appreciate it

Depending on the torrent client he's using it should have a very easy-to-use bandwidth limiter in the settings menu.

Sig under construction.

if you can get access to his pc you can put a cap on the maximum download speeds so he doesnt hog all the bandwith

CPU: i5 6600k @ 4.6 ghz  Motherboard: Asus z170-a  Cooling: Corsair h80i GT GPU: EVGA GTX 970  Ram: G.Skill 2x8 gb ddr4 2400  PSU: EVGA G2 Supernova 550w  Case: Corsair 200r Storage: 250GB 850 EVO + 2x wd 1 tb drives

(Torrenting isn't illegal, it's the content that can be)

Most torrent clients have an option to limit download speed. It may be worth digging around in your routers settings to see if you can throttle P2P traffic, though it will affect other P2P traffic, not just torrents.

Could be brutal and make a fake letter from your ISP saying that any further illegal downloads will result in a termination of your connection and lawsuit. Pretend as if you picked it up so your parents didn't see it to save his bacon and he might stop :P

He would be able to turn that off as easy as i'd have found it

Log into your router and see if there is a bandwidth limiter, then limit his IP if you can. If not then kick his ass.

"Slow down my torrent just so you can game? No thanks."

I'd have tried this if he wasnt the type to actually reply to the email - threatening false legal action and awaiting a reply xD

See if you can send him another fake email, then block all traffic from his computer to the internet, then tell him that they have access to the router to do that. I personally would just block torrent sites like kickass and stuff.

My native language is C++
