Looking for some assistance

I'm looking to pick up a new monitor, I'm currently running 3x 27" 1920x1080 60hz monitors (Samsung S27D390) and 2x GTX 780.

As i've been running 27" until now I'm not looking for anything beneath this. I'll be primarily playing Overwatch (FPS) and this game is the reason I'm looking to up the monitor quality.

I'm looking for optimal performance and reasonably future proof, but most models I've been looking at seem to have a few compromises.

I'm used to running three of these so I've been thinking either I'm replacing one of them with a better 144hz 27", how would this work? I'm not running surround.

Alternatively, I've been looking at some 32-35" (In which case I'm thinking one, not three), however it seems i'd definately have to cut down on performance in this case (not spending the 1200£ for ASUS' new one).

Assuming above alternatives don't work, I'd be ok running 1x performance 27", however, I'd be in favor of the 30+ ones, assuming there aren't too many drawbacks in performance.

I'm willing to spend around 1000$, depending on what I'm getting, however I'd like to avoid overpaying.

Open to suggestions,

thanks in advance.

Well there is the XB270HU which is a 1440p 27 inch G-Sync 144hz IPS monitor however that costs ~ 500 pounds: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/acer-monitor-xb270hubprz

Alternatively, you could buy 3 conventional 144hz 1440p TN monitors although with surround i would suggest you go for an IPS setup.

The XG270HU is a 1440p 144hz 27inch Freesync TN monitor and costs ~ 350: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/acer-monitor-umhg0ee001

OR you could get a curved 144hz G-Sync VA monitor which is ~ 1000: http://www.144hzmonitors.com/monitors/acer-z35-35-inch-ultrawide-144hz-va-gaming-monitor/

Freesync would be useless with NVIDIA cards or am I mistaken?

Do you think 3x 27" 144hz is preferable to 1x 35"?

Alternatively, if 3x 27" 144hz surround is the better option and freesync isn't a dealbreaker for NVIDIA / don't need it, there's a decent deal where I live on the ASUS MG279Q. How's this for a choice? Any better alternatives?

Well the Asus MG279Q is basically a slightly better built XG270HU with an IPS panel. I'd say go for the Asus if it's less than 500, but then your budget would have to be extended, otherwise get the Acer. You cannot utilize freesync but there is no cheaper 1440p 144hz monitor and if nvidia ever does decide to support freesync then you can take advantage of freesync.

The difference between the ASUS and the HU is 50£, so I'd assume the ASUS is worth it.

Assuming I'd eventually pick up three of them, if not instantly, how would things run if I kept a 60hz and started out with two of the 144hz? Been a long time since I ran surround, how does resolution differences etc play out? Would I be stuck running 1920x1080 on them all?

If using an nvidia GPU, which you are, then you will be playing at 1080p 60hz across all monitors and may experience black bars on the 1440p monitors. If there is just a 50 pound difference i'd suggest picking up the Asus monitors ASAP (before they become much more expensive).

Okay, thank you for your help.

Oh and, I assume in no-surround mode I'd still run at 144hz / higher resolution? (With 60hz / 144 / 144).

If you have them hooked up to the same GPU then you MAY still run at 60hz (probably not, but you can try it out).

The ASUS offer was limited to one per customer, didn't see that.

Do you still suggest picking up 1x ASUS and say, two HU? How would these play?

Far as I can tell resolution / hz are the same, panels are different? Stick to IPS, mix, or three TN (HU)?

I don't recommend mixing panel types because they have different colors and response times. You could just get 2 of your mates (or parents) to buy a monitor each and give them to you.
