Ok so I made a non skylake build earlier, but was told it was best to upgrade to skylake. My budget is 1700 but that seems hard here. I want to game at 1080p60 max settings, as well as doing some programming. My black and red theme I would like to stay this includes the case (I intend to do some case mods, yes I know it's an expensive option) ok so that over with please share your thoughts.

You could look into the Enthoo Pro M to try and cut down cost. It is my second favorite case compared to Nocts 450.

Do you NEED a WiFi adapter? Ethernet is much better.

Sadly yes. Router is not in my room and house isn't set up for networking. PowerLine may be better but the plug near the router is quite full

Is that $1700 USD?

Because you could totally get like a 1440 144Hz monitor at that budget and probably want to go with a 390 GPU there for future crossfire to hit 144fps in titles.

Also because maxwell might not support DX12 fully.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3fJnRB

around 1700

Includes a 1440p IPS 144Hz Free-sync monitor. You could shave 100 bucks off if you can live with a TN panel.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Just use linux *wink* *wink*

And you can always just get an SSD later, it's a rather easy install. That hundered or so dollars can be put into other places to help you more in the long run.

Or just drop the cooler and add in the 240gb SSD, both are rather optional.

Less indie games are supported by linux

Clearly I'm not advocating software piracy, however, if someone isn't using a software commercially to make money off it, well...ehn.

  1. you need a better cpu cooling solution. get a corsair h60 or a noctua u12s or a phanteks dual fan heatsink (Phanteks PH-TC12DX_BK)

you only need 520w for your setup

if you're playing at 1080p with a gtx 980, you'll be getting more than 60 fps. i would recommend the following monitor with 144 hertz and 1ms: Asus VG248QE. don't cheap out on the monitor for this setup. save money elsewhere so you can get a better monitor. trust me

other than that, good build

  1. cooling solution changed to a red and white themed phanteks cooler
  2. motherboard changed to a less expensive option with red and black
  3. psu changed to 520w as that's all you'll need for overclocking both the cpu and gpu
  4. took away the extra fans. you won't need them with this setup as there will be minimal heat ouput
  5. now it's your job to take away some of the more expensive options so that you can buy the monitor i added. you won't regret it
