CPU with stock cooler?

I'm just curious here. Not planning to buy anything.
 

 

Do we have the option to buy cpus without stock cooler? Or do they always come along?

Seems kind of dumb if that's the case. No stock cooler = cheaper price + more environment friendly.

I think it's just the 6xxx series from intel that dropped stock coolers. And most Xeons

I think the new Skylake K series dont come with coolers, or Xeons, i think.

Intel seems to have stopped shipping unlocked processors with heatsinks now (probably based on the assumption that people buying them have something considerably better in mind). Their locked ones still do, which makes sense as the stock ones do the job.

 

I suspect intel just buys in extreme bulk to the point where the cooler is probably worth less than $1 to them. so it'd make little difference to pricing.

All enthusiast grade cpu´s like Haswell-E, Ivybridge-E, Sandybridge-E dont come with a stock cooler.

Skylake cpu´s also dont come with stock coolers.

The stock heat sink though junk is useful for checking the system during the build and at stock speed works. I wouldn't run one longer than you had to but they have a purpose.

The environment doesn't care, that heat sink is WAY down the list.

i have exaly used my FX8350 + stock cooler for more then a year.

And aside from it being noisy as hell, it still did a decent cooling job.

But ofc the stock coolers on AMD FX8 core chips are way better then intels stock solutions

The cooler that came with mine was barely up to keeping it from melting . My temps while running cinebench went from 71c to 42c when I installed my H105. I keep it as a memento.

Cause 71°C on intel isnt that bad exaly for a stock cooler.

4690k and I sit at 59c in cinebench at 4.5GHz now.

FX-9000 series and Skylake K series... (there is also OEM versions but they are for industries who make PCs...)
