What determines your ping?

Is it the location or the Up/Downs of how fast your PC can send/recieve information?

If I want to get 15 - 40 ping on average when playing CS:GO, or similar games, (from Tromsö, Norway) how many mbt/s up/down you reckon I should get?

Sorry for being a fucking Scrub but yeah.

Edit: Thanks for clearing things up.

Highly appreciated.

Ping is measured in milliseconds (the time it takes for your signal to reach your router, go through some kind of transmission, reach an ISP server, be transmitted again, and then reach the server you're trying to connect to and then it sends it back. Higher ping=higher latency in-game. Upload and download is just the amount of data that can be carried on said connection over a certain period of time. In gaming, ping matters more.

Download/Upload speed is not exactly related to your ping time. If you are looking to do online gaming, you should make sure that you have at least 5mbit down, but a 15-30 connection would be better.

As far as ping goes, one of the biggest factors is how far you are physically located from a specific server. So if you are trying to play on a north american, or australian server, you can expect your ping to be shite. But most of europe should be pretty decent for you.

When in doubt, re-format.
