need help with fan speed control

Hey everyone.

So recently i've installed two new fans in my PC and cooling-wise they're doing a formidable job.

Problem is, they're super-noisy and power consuming because for some reason they spin at maximum speed whenever the computer is on. i've tried downloading fan-control software like 'speedfan' and such but nothing works.

i've been told that you can program your fans to certain speeds in the BIOS but i'm kind of newbie, so if any you guys can guide me through it that'd be swell.

thx

If you connected them to your motherboard they should be controllable in your BIOS under monitoring usually or via your motherboard manufacture's fan control software, what board are you using and are the fans 3 pin or 4 pin  PWM fans.

Which mobo...? With Asus and MSI mobos you can add fan curves to slow rpms when PC isn't requiring much cooling. Others (and if you need more control) will work with Speedfan. <- Thats pretty old piece of software and you will need to checkout several quides to get it working. But once it does, its amazing.

Are your fans 3 pin or 4 pin? What's your board?

GIGABYTE-GA-H97-HD3

Doesn't appear that this board can control 3 pin fans via BIOS. I suggest buying either a fan controller to control them with (fits in an ODD bay) or some low noise adapters, which limit the voltage to the fan. This means that the fans will still spin at one constant speed, they'll just spin slower and be quieter.

Can you recommend me a certain product?

For a fan controller, NZXT's Sentry 3 is solid, as is their Sentry Mesh. Pick whichever you like better: Touchscreen or slider. For low noise adapters, try Noctua's, they're good.

You can do 3 pin voltage control on almost all boards either through the BIOS or gigabyte's fan control software. Some boards don't n't support True PWM control on all fan headers but since your only using 3 pin it shouldn't be an issue.

If this works, by all means, use this. Funny how I didn't see this... Hmm. Well, you could check BIOS and see if this works.
