choosing a CPU

so im thinking of getting the i5 6600 (nonK) and save money by getting a non z170 mb and using a stock cooler ,would that bottleneck an R9 390X ?

Its not? Its just a beefed up 290x. Its not something i'd ever buy over a 980 at that price point. I'd either just get the 390 or a 980 in that range. w.e

it's quite a bit faster than the 290X, in fact even the R9 390 is faster than the 290X...any of these GPU's are indeed slightly slower than a GTX980...and any of these GPU's is high-end GPU's...anything above that (980ti /Fury...) is considered enthusiast levels/tier 1.

Mid range cards are more like GTX 960/R9 380/GTX 770 that type of stuff you know...your GTX970 is also high-end.

i mostly meant the CPU...those locked skylake chip i assume will still take some time to be readily available..you have a hard time finding the i7-6700K and this shit's been out for a while already now..

Really? I've always thought of anything in the range from the 750 ti to the 960 to be a budget card. $450+ for me is high end. I don't think i'd classify anything as enthusiast besides cards like the 980 ti kingpin.

Basically the skylake equivalent of a 4690 and a H97 board? The i5 is the highest end CPU for people interested only in gaming. Bottlenecking is not really an issue anymore when you buy a balance system, and that 390X should pair beautifully with a locked i5, only thing that would bother me is waiting for the release but if you're willing to wait to save some money and you really don't care about OC, sounds perfectly fine to me.

My view is if you're going to go Skylake, way skimp on the K? If you're trying to keep the cost down, use a 4-5th gen i5-i7. Just my opinion and nothing wrong with looking to not overclock.

Consider any GPU above 300 bucks at launch day to be high end, with higher end ones like 980, 980 ti, fury and fury x on their own category of enthusiast class GPUs.

My view is if you're going to go Skylake, way skimp on the K? If you're trying to keep the cost down, use a 4-5th gen i5-i7. Just my opinion and nothing wrong with looking to not overclock.

it will depends on price...the i5-4460 is a bargain right now IMHO...and H97 boards are cheaper than ever...if locked skylake can compete with that in price then yeah..
