Waste of write cycles?

 

SSD's aren't as bad as they used to be. This won't really be an issue.

What about torrents? (movies)

 

I download them on a crappy laptop and then transfer them to the SSD, that's just me, I don't want to risk it.

Yes you can but if you have a low storage SSD it's probably better to put them on a HDD.
