Power Supply orientation

Go to solution Solved by STRMfrmXMN,

So the case I bought is raised about 1 inch and a half, and it's also got an vent at the bottom and the holes to mount a PSU downwards. I installed my Rosewill Photon Power Supply facing down, so the fan blows out of the case right away, but I wanted to know the benefits or the downsides of doing this. I haven't had any issues so far, had my build since early July, about the 12th. I just want to know if I should change the orientation or if it's okay to keep it like that.

Well first the fan is an intake so you really want to avoid putting it face up if possible as you don't want the PSU fighting for airflow with the GPU. Second, the fan should only be face up if the PC is on carpet or if tee system is watercooled where it's not really necessary but is an option.

if you case has decent air flow you most likely won't notice any difference, but if space is limited having the PSU blow out on its own might help

Normally it's not an issue having the PSU facing upwards/downwards/sideways or how ever the config may be. Some cases if you don't have much air flow it can be an issue but normally your looking at around a 1 or 2 degree change.

As a general rule, the idea is that you mount the PSU facing down to draw cool air. In reality, you probably won't notice a difference either way, and if you don't have dust filters it's probably better to install it facing up to reduce dust.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.
