so i'm currently re-building system and it will be a while until i can afford to buy my GPU's, just thinking of doing the lapping as something i can do when bored.

Has anyone else here done this? What have the results been like?

The CPU is a 1045T 2.7ghz stock but i run it at 3.4ghz.

Thanks in advance threee6.

Only do it if your CPU has a visual curvature to the IHS which could lead to higher temperatures.

yeah samdb got a good point here ,it wont give you more than 2-3c difference because the core die is soldered to IHS

it does look pretty shocking and if i remember correctly the phenoms were known for it. It wasn't running hot last time i had it overclocked but i figured it's something i can do whilst the CPU isn't getting used.

You could get a ruler and a light and see how bad it is.

Im not sure, but isn't lapping shaving off the top layer of the IHS? Doesn't sound like a good idea to me, especially not for only 2-3 degrees.
