Question about compatibility.

Go to solution Solved by Glenwing,

Her current CPU is a i5-2400, not sure what power supply she has but if she got a new power supply would the graphics card work then?

Yes I edited my post above.

If you replace the power supply you should be fine, a 550W+ unit will do fine as long as it's of decent quality. Keep in mind that replacing the power supply will mean having to rewire everything connected to power, so make sure that it's possible for you to get to the power cables on the motherboard and drives. Some OEM systems make it difficult to unplug or unwire them.

A friend of mine has a HP model number h8-1145 desktop PC with a AMD Radeon HD 6670 in it would i be able to give her my old GTX 780? I had planned to sell it but she said her current PC is having a hard time with Starcraft lol

Sorry if this seems like a silly question  :P

I doubt that the power supply would handle a GTX 780. Other than that there shouldn't be any compatibility issues, though you may want to measure to make sure there is enough length for the GPU to fit.

StarCraft is a pretty CPU-intensive game, and I used to play it on a system with a 6670, it ran fine. You may be better served by a CPU upgrade, unless you're sure it's the graphics card that's limiting you.

EDIT: I looked up the other specs, the i5-2400 it already has should be plenty. Unless you're running it on super ultra settings or the monitor is plugged into the motherboard instead of the GPU, I don't see it having a terrible time with SC.

Is the power supply good enough? Can the case provide enough room for cooling?

I doubt that the power supply would handle a 780, considering the 6670 doesn't use any extra power.
