Hello all,

I have recently built about a $2000 US custom PC for gaming. My buddy convinced me to load the Windows 10 beta on my SSD for my OS when I built my new PC. Only problem with that, is that I now cannot upgrade to the full Windows 10 because I never had a version of Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 loaded previously. I was wondering if anyone had any tips that could help me. I do not have a optical drive, so I'm hoping there's a way to just download it to my SSD. Also, I'd rather not have to pirate the full version, but I understand that that may be the only other way without going out and purchasing the physical copy of Windows 10.

Thank y'all and have a wonderful day!

You can use Windows 10 for free if you are willing to stay as a tester so you will be forced to install beta updates which may cause problems.

Yeah, that's what I'm having thoughts about. I want to get the full version, just in case the beta is causing some of the issues I'm having with some of my games. And just to have the full version, honestly.

Thank you as well!

If you donwload W7 and can activate it in such way that the Windows thinks it is legal then you can upgrade to W10 and get legal key most of the times (depends on how well the W7 was activated).

Yeah, I've heard and read a bit about a lot of people doing that. Honestly, I'm not that intelligent when it comes to that kind of stuff, so I'll probably just end up paying for one of the previous Windows and upgrading it to 10

You should probably do just that. Microsoft is enabling some serious anti-piracy countermeasures in Windows 10. The tracking and monitoring is one thing, but they've moved the activation info to the server-side.

I don't think there even is a working crack for Win 10. Don't quote me on that, I don't even want to look into it very deep since 9 out of 10 cracks will likely have two trojans in them.

Your options are:

- Stick with the beta. You need to keep beta-testing the updates pre-release.

- Install and activate a version of 7, 8 or 8.1, upgrade that to the 10. The key you get for the older os will still work for it. There is no key for Win 10 upgrade version.

- Buy the media and license for Win 10. Likely the easiest but most expensive option. Also, there's no rolling back to the older OS later on.

Whichever way you decide to take, MS provides a free utility to create a USB installation media. You can use it for both, upgrade or clean install. It's available at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
