Security alert: CS:S and some older source-engine games are vulnerable to new exploits...

Counter-Strike Player

I found some disturbing reddit threads today:

https://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensive/comments/3jpyhh/do_not_join_unkown_cs_source_servers_via_ip/

https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/3jqbc0/cs_source_server_downloaded_executed_malware_on/ (repost)

https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/3jja73/source_2013_mp_base_file_upload_and_execution/

https://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensive/comments/3b9vgo/there_is_currently_a_customfiles_related/

CS:GO apparently got patched but other games like CS:S, TF2, L4D2, and Gmod are potentially vulnerable too. For now if you still want to play these games, I would say don't play on "unknown" severs, disable sprays, and turn off downloading custom files in your settings. "Auto-executing" maleware upon connecting to a server is no funny business.

64500 people are playing it right now, according to Steam. TF2 isn't one of the vulnerable games, though, but the TF2 Classic mod is.

This isn't new news, this has been around for a very long time, and even longer on CS 1.6.

Well one of the exploits apparently was made aware to the Steam reddit group 1 day ago and already is pseudo-in-the-wild so the compiled binaries for the skids to use are already "out there."
