Mouse/Keyboard or Controller?

Mostly talking to the PC Gaming community.

I was wondering what do you most prefer when playing PC games: Mouse/Keyboard or Controller?

I mostly use controller because everytime I play with my keyboard and mouse, I usually get cramps on my fingers from pressing the keys on the keyboard. Maybe I need a better quality keyboard/mouse. I like using the controller because it just feels comfortable. But I always use keyboard and mouse for games like CS:GO or any FPS game, where accuracy is key.

Want do you use? Also, tell me what kind of keyboard/mouse, or controller you use to game?

I have the Coolermaster Devastator KB/M combo, and the standard Microsoft Xbox 360 controller.

I use my keyboard and mouse for nearly every game, I have the Corsair K70 with red switches and blue back lighting and a Corsair M65 RGB however for certain games like Assassins Creed, Shadow of Mordor, Watch_Dogs, and GTA 5 I like to use a Xbox 360 controller as certain games just work really well with them.

Depends on the game. Mostly mouse/keyboard, but a controller for racers.

I say that depends on the game. Personally, I'd go mouse/keyboard for FPS and RTS/MOBAs, mouse/keyboard or HOTAS for something like Star Citizen/Elite Dangerous, controller for pretty much everything else. Oh, and fightstick for good ol' button bashers (fighting games).

Really depends on the game, i couldn't imagine playing something like WoW with anything other than a good mouse and keyboard with a million binds but when its something like GTAV i like to stream the game play to my lounge room TV and play on the sofa with a controller :)

Im used to M/K but im sure others use what is more appropiate (fighting games controller, shooters M/K).

I do have a controller jist for Mortal Kombat X but cant get used to it. On other hand MK10 is unplayable on a keyboard :D

If i play a racing game its surely on a keyboard. I have a placebo effect when o press harder on the keys (even bottomed out) i feel going faster :D but i want to buy a wheel (new G29 or whatever is the one from Logitech).

I started off with just using keyboard in fps a controller for everything else, coming from console.
But now I try to use keyboard in as many games as possible, apart from games like rayman, racing or fifa.
I can say I much prefer keyboard now, even in gta v whilst driving, just much nicer.

Edit, just a few days ago I switched from controller to M&K in Arkham knight, again..I know much prefer keyboard in that game :)

Controllers for platformers, fighters, most emulated games.  Games where I don't control the camera.

HOTAS for Elite: Dangerous.

Mouse and keyboard for everything else (including Assassin Creed games, MGS5, and the Arkham games.  Any game where I'm in control of the camera, really).

I'm a PC gamer/youtuber, not a consel one. I've actually only touched a consel controller around 8 times (not including a Wii)... I thought about buying an xBox controller for my PC, but it's not worth the money cause I don't play enough games compatable with the controller. So that said, I love my gaming gear...

  • Razer Naga 2014
  • Razer Blackwidow 2014
  • Some cheap $40 bluetooth headphones (with ducktape on them)

I just find mice and keyboards more compatable in general for most all games minus driving games. Then you should just buy a wheel ;)

I use Corsair K70 w/brown switches and red lighting, and a Razer Deathadder 2014 for most games, especially FPS and then switch over to my Xbox One controller (still waiting on that Wireless adapter to come out!! So using a cheap 3m USB cable) for 3rd person, racing and whenever I feel like playing on my TV through HDMI. I also have Controller Companion for using my controller as a mouse when navigating on TV.

PC: i7-3770k, GTX 670, 16gb 1600mhz, SSDs only, Corsair K70, Razer Deathadder, Windows 10.

I would personally use controller for racing games and GTA 5. GTA 5 and mouse and keyboard don't really fit together in my mind :L

I know what you mean. I use controller on GTA 5 as well, even in multiplayer when I should be at a disadvantage, yet still seem to win a lot of firefights against those with Keyboard/Mouse

I play GTA V with a controller, mostly because driving with keyboard and mouse is a pain.

  • 2 months later...

looking at HOTAS for Star Citizen now; wondering if anyone has taken to footboards such as the one from stinky (in pairs) and their feedback; or findings from other foot controller types.  Given what I've spent on ships so far, and the rig that is being planned; I'd like to look at all options towards full immersion.  usb butt plugs however are out; not happening.
