How about the Asus Zenbook Prime? There are some lower teired models that would fit your price range.

Aspire S3

Didn't read that you "disliked" Acer but this is one of the better laptops for the money

^He's got the right idea. Acer makes some good quality laptops, no idea why you don't like them.

okay, I guess I'll check the Acer's too. I was just told that build quality was mediocre for those. Anyways, I've found this : http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834314064

i was wondering if anyone has any experience with it? what about battery life?

I have an extra copy of Windows 7 that I could slam in there. Would make the perfect cheap laptop for me, if the battery life is good.

Thanks again for all the suggestions.

Used/refurbished Thinkpad. Ebay and Craigslist are good places to look. With luck, you can get a 2-3 year old one for much less than $600. Or an X220 for $600ish.

No problem. I found a review that stated they got 6.5 hours out of it.

Keep in mind that it is refurbished and the review was most likely done with a brand new laptop.
