Friend's build

Elardoven

What do you think? He only wants an ssd, doesn't want to have to deal with a hard drive. His budget is maxed with this. He will mainly be using this for gaming, and a little bit of schoolwork.

My Build: i7-4790K, 212 Evo, Asus Maximus VI Extreme, Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB DDR3-1600, Intel 730 240GB SSD, WD Blue 1TB, EVGA GTX 980Ti ACX 2.0, NZXT H440 Blue/Black, EVGA 650W 80+Gold.

Most of the time, it's not the computer, it's the person using it.

i'm not too familliar with the EVGA PSUs so i'm not gonna quote on that.

but the non-oc i5 + Z97 is a bit of an odd combo.

perhaps look at a (cheaper) H97/H87 board.

  1. get a b85 or h97 board as you don't have an overclockable cpu
  2. 390 will perform better than the 970 in games
  3. get the evga g2 or gs psu's as they are better
  4. i would get a better monitor at 1ms and 144 hertz for 1080p if he gets the 390
  5. you don't need all those extra fans

edit:

the gigabyte g1 gaming 390 is voltage locked while the msi versions are not. keep that in mind

edit:

i would get a corsair or fractal design case instead of the nzxt
