ive been looking to get the 980ti strix edition but im running into a problem. looking on newegg it seems that there are two version of the strix and im not sure if this is a mistake or its intended. one is the oc version that has the higher base and boost clock. the other honestly looks like a regular 980ti in terms of its clock speed and pcb design just with a strix cooler and name slapped on it. are there suppose to be two version of the card or was the first oc version the only one? just want to get the right one as the second version looks very lack luster in terms of its stock speeds.

Can you link the ones you're talking about?

I think you are referring to the reference design and the one with the strix cooler on top of it ?

On Newegg there are two asus 980ti versions. One is 649$ and the other is 659$ the 649$ is called the strix but its clocks are WAY lower the the other 659$ version that has OC in the product name. I'm wondering which strix is the real strix card and which is them simply slapping a strix cooler on top of a reference card.

The boards are the same - they both use aftermarket PCBs from ASUS. The only difference is clock speeds.

Then why are there two??? I just don't wanna buy the subpar 980ti.

ASUS made one that has lower clocks. That's it. They did it in the past as well with 660 Ti's. They both used the same PCB - just one was overclocked and the other wasn't.

That being said, the higher clocked 980 Ti might overclock a little better.

Both PCBs look identical so I assure you that what I'm saying is true.
