So I am getting a new gpu and was curious if I should get the gtx 960 or r9 380? Please take note that I don't play 99% of triple A games. I'm mostly a league of legos, csgo, dota kind of guy. Would it even be better to simply get a gtx 950 for the price:performance? Much love!

380/280/285 would be the best choice

I think you're better off with a GTX 750 Ti if you only play those games.

I play SOME triple A games. But usually way after release. xD Poor college student problems.

it depends on the rest of your system mostly.

the 750Ti does AMAZING in this field, especially for low power/small form factor machines.

I was thinking about that card too. I mean I don't feel the need to drop extra for something I MAY use in the future. Because 90% of the time I don't.

the thing is that with the games you've listed, a GT640 would suffice.

the 750Ti provides much more value for money tho.

Would a GTX 960 be worth it in the long run you think? $149 for 750ti or $223(give or take) for GTX960

hmmm.. What about an R9 380? AMD seems to be way better in DX12 benchmarks.

By the time DX12 is at the point where I could give a crap I will hopefully have enough to get a higher end gpu. xD

I would probably either go for a second hand 7970 / 280 if you're fine with used

or get a R9 380, as that will let you test the waters with some heavier games later

Recommend what is best, not what you preffer.

well, the more you spend on you GPU, the longer you're gonna be able to go without upgrading, or without turning down settings.

as said (@JelleDekkers) AMD does better in DX12 right now, the question is if you're gonna be playing any DX12 games, and how nvidia is going to fix this.

--

for me personally the low TDP of the mid-range Nvidia parts is a huge benefit, because it'll save you in room heat, and required airflow.

I don't plan on getting any triple A games in the near future honestly. Not until DX12 is mainstream.

well... on that note, i have like... 2 DX11 games... xD

you may be waiting a while for that :P

I think I'll go with the 750ti in all honesty. It's comfortably within budget and does what I want it to.

in the one available bench, which is a game in Alpha state. I'm keeping these comments to myself until we see some actual optimized DX12 games benched. By which point I will be due a new GPU anyway, as will a lot of people.

If you have extra money, go get a 380 ,or you WILL regret like I do...Three years before I thought I would never play 3A games, but things change, after my friends stop playing dota, I stop playing online games either...So I think get a good card would be nice

That is my mind set! I'm not gonna "invest" into a possible fps increase.
