Open Candy & Audio Converters

Is there a free MP3 converter I can download that will convert bitrates to something smaller? I've tried downloading Switch (NCHsoftware) I've looked for others and all of them pop a message from my antivirus (NOD 32) about 'open Candy'. It also does that when I try to download CrystalDisk programs as well. What the hell is it?
