G-Sync & Refresh Rate?

Go to solution Solved by o0Martin,

This might be a 'noobie' question, but I'm looking to get a new monitor.

My main question is: will G-sync affect the total refresh rate of my monitor?

Let's say I have a 144Hz monitor, and I mod it with G-sync. Will that 144Hz be pulled down? Or will it be unaffected??

Thank you in advanced!

How do you mean 'mod it with g sync'? I know back when it was 1st released there were g sync modules available which could go into a very select few displays to enable g sync, however this isn't the case anymore.

As for G sync and refresh rate, g sync has a 'variable refresh rate' spec listed, which could be say between 30-120Hz, and the monitor could have a refresh rate of upto 144Hz, in this situation g sync would work between 30-120Hz meaning when you have 30-120fps, and then when you have under 30fps or above 120fps it would disable g sync and work like normal without it. (All g sync monitors come with a ULMB [ultra low motion blur] mode which is enabled when g sync is off.)

Can you monitor even be modded with G-Sync? Only one display can be and it's made by ASUS. Can't remember the model though.

It was the VG248QE, but I don't think the modding kit is even available anymore

The people over on the Tek Syndicate forums are working on modding the Nvidia drivers to make it think that the connected monitor is in a laptop and hence use Mobile GSync which it just uses the Adaptive Sync standard and doesn't require the scalar.

Then no hardware modding required. Then your refresh rate shouldn't change at all - the only limit would be Mobile G-Sync itself.

Thought it was that monitor but not 100% sure. I agree, but it might be available on eBay or some other site.

Lol, but then you still need a IPS 1440P 144hz so no thank you
