I've been having a really hard time getting my hands on a EVGA 980ti Hybrid card here in Australia so i was thinking of importing one myself but as its value exceeds the $1000 threshold i was wondering if it would be better for me to just give a friend in the US/Canada the money and have them buy it for me and send it over, given that customs would have no immediate way to be able to tell if it was simply a birthday gift or whatever would it still attract duty/GST?

Hoping there is an Aussie here who has been through this situation themselves recently :) thank you.

Recently my aunt sent over a HYPER 212 EVO from hong kong to canada and it costs $100 CAD. So yes it will probably be expensive as fuck.
