M.2 Boot SSD worth it?

Go to solution Solved by Paralectic,

It's not.

I'm building a new PC on Z170 and while waiting for the last of my parts to arrive I started wondering whether having a tiny M.2 SSD for a boot drive would be worth it. I will have a 500GB 850 Evo for a boot drive otherwise. At the moment the only M.2 SSD of a tiny enough capacity I could get reasonably quickly is an 80GB Intel 530. For almost everything else availability is absolutely disastrous.

I would probably stick with a normal 2.5'' SATA3 drive mate, I haven't looked at prices but I would have thought it would be cheaper and also to save a little money a 250GB 850 EVO will be fine.

I'm personally going to wait 6 months to a year and see where the prices are. I mainly want an NVMe drive...

Not really, normal 2.5 SSD still offer what most consumers need in terms of speed and storage for a good price.
