Everyone in my family has a computer of their own. I 'taught' them not to touch or use my computer since I payed for it all. Since I'm the most geeky person in the family, if my parents would (never did before) try to ban me from using my computer I would make sure their computers won't boot the next day xD I never gave them a reason to so :P

We all have our own desktops, and if they would damage mine. i would boot into some live distro, simply move out a important file for a bit, and watch them bitch about how their computer does not boot anymore.

it is genuinely fun to be able to do that.

never had a reason though.

same goes for the network, threathening to take it down?

MAC filter. (I am not yet able to configure it on the current router, but I will learn)

maybe shift around group policies to allow access without a password. (they have blank passwords)

and use a generic WoL program to remotely shut it down.

You could just get a Raspberry Pi for them and plug it onto the TV so they can browse the internet and watch YouTube.

We all have our own computer/laptop in our family.

We're all networked so we all have access to each others files, etc. So I can watch movies/ tv shows off my computer down in the kitchen or brother's room or etc.

We all share and if there's something we need to use on someone else's then we just ask them if we can use it, etc. Not a big deal, my PC is the only heavy gaming PC but no one else really plays much besides me and my brother.

I built all the other rigs in the house and they're all specialised for something different because everyone has different needs.

Mine's gaming/overclocking/24-7 use and a laptop for uni

older brother is a DJ so his is optimized for Audio and workstation use as well as compatibility with his Macbook Pro he uses for club nights.

Younger brother has my old rig which is now for light gaming and 24-7 downloading, he has another laptop for work

Sister has a laptop for uni.

Mum and dad have the computer in the kitchen which is for work, emails, browsing and some media to watch on the kitchen TV

Aunty has her own SFF computer which is made for multimedia and work.

Between my brothers computers and mine, we all act as mini storage servers. Up to about 18TB of storage over the network.

Never had a problem with sharing between family.

Parents are computer illiterate and my little sister only uses Word and MSN Messenger, so a shitty laptop for her. And my PC's all my money anyway ... so eh.

Seems like everyone's respective families have their own PC's for each individual member. As for my family before we had a pc for everyone my sister and I had to share the only desktop in the house and the only way to do that without fighting was to schedule timeslots when was our  time to use the desktop and when it was time for the other.  I didn't enjoy it obviously but there wasn't any other peaceful way of solving the problem hahaha.

No sibling (though that might change soon) and my mom hates using my computer because my mouse is too fast for her and she doesn't recognize anything I use (Chrome, Foobar).

I paid for my own desktop. So its mine. I also have my own PS3. (used to have my own xbox 360 as well, but I just sold it)

My parents have a laptop, and my brother and my dad share a PS3. I share nothing because its mine! lol

My consoles and PC is in my room and I nobody comes in without permission whether they are family, friends, or roommates. By girlfriend can come in freely but she has no interest in console gaming and only uses a PC for word processing and internet browsing

I am lucky, my PC is my own and other people don't come into the room when I'm not there. The only time there are others in my room, I am also there, and we are chilling on the sofa watching movies streaming from the PC.

To try and help with your situation I'd suggest coming up with a rota, make a sheet with 7 days on it, and make time slots for you and the other person, and when it's your time slot, you are playing and when the other person's time slot is around, you don't disturb them either. This could help you to build a mutual respect for each others time, or cause problems, I am not an expert, just a suggestion.

My wife is afraid to touch it because every time I get on it after work and she has used it I have 50 freaking coupon tool bars on my browser. So she has stopped until the other day and there was a Mcafee short cut on my desktop. She never reads what she clicks on.
