I would assume you could share via NAS but to answer the other question: I have three systems sharing one drive for my Steam Library, so yes, multiple computers can access the same folder (if you set them up to).

1. Sure. Just know that there are bugs that will follow.

2. I want to say yes but no at the same time, but it should if the above works.

i know this is not "piratical".

1. could you have a steam library on NAS ?

2. Could multiple computers share said Steam library?

this i just an idea i have.

"piratical" has been fixed .... sorry

1.yes

2. It will show up in everyone's steam library if they all have the NAS set as a steam library. However they will only be able to launch the game if they have it activated on steam or if family sharing is enabled.

Not exactly there is a catch to that for that to work Steam must be on the network drives not on your PC, you install on the server first and you access it from your PC, it will act as a host for you and you are a client, you can't be host in two places at once.

make a network drive, and when installing game, direct the installation directory to that drive.

I've tried that before, if you ok with stutering and constant loading then it's all good.

the idea is great, however in reality games not just loading 1 single big chunk files, often a game could have more than thousands files, which really crippling network performance.

Read over this since it seems he made it run, I tried in the past but there are too many issues to deal with.

100mbps? Most modern switches are gigabit, if you were transferring a file to get that number it would have been given in Bytes, which is closer to what I would expect.

some games were ok, like small size games

I cannot explain in words precisely, but technically each loading needs constant feedback between in and out which is also one of the problem

also, bear in mind even with NAS drive, the game can be only played on single user

for example, you play CSGO, then PC no. 2 can't play the same game because the files still being used.

this alone beat the purpose of having 1 storage for all user (assuming that's what you want to do)

thank you , it seems he advise not to have multiple machine on the same library. but this makes it great way to store games NAS and if your pc dies you don't have to worry about re-downloading your whole library and it also kept up to date

okay, then 2nd pc will get its own network folder to store his games.
