Hello Linustechtips,

Yesterday I took my desktop apart to clean out dust and what have you... Didn't touch any components such as RAM, GPU, or the CPU. But for some reason when I reassembled it, turn it on. Nothing happens.

The screen stays black, I tried swapping in a new power supply, it still stays back. Tried an old GPU I had, and still nothing. The speaker in the desktop doesn't say a word either.

The LED on the Mobo stays solid green,

Done everything mentioned in the thread How to respond to a no POST or no power up situation

Thanks for your time in advance ^.^

It sounds stupid, but did you plug everything back in properly? 24-pin, CPU power, PCI-e power if you need it, GPU power

I am good at computer

How did you clean it? If it have been disconnected from the power outlet try and clear the CMOS

I used a vacuum cleaner on the lowest setting, made sure it didn't touch anything - clearing the CMOS and BIOS right now

-Cleared the CMOS and nothing new.

Yes, went about to double check it after I found out it wouldn't boot

For future reference.

Don't use a vacuume cleaner to clean a the inside of a computer. Those things produces static like crazy

Try onboard video, I know you ruled out GPU but the slots may be dead or something

Posted the specs in the first post now. - Don't support onboard if I remeber corrently

Sorry for the long reply, I got caught up in editing a video, you tried everything on that list? That's quite extensive. Given that your computer still won't post I'm going to have to guess you damaged something while cleaning, the static build up may have shorted something. Also, given how extensive that list is I'm going to suggest that it is your motherboard that is damaged... I suggest trying to flash your BIOS first before drawing any conclusions

If you don't get anything then it's hard to determine what thing is causing the problem. I'm more and more convinced it's a hardware problem. Out of curiosity though, does everything spin up such as fans and optical drives/hard drives and it just doesn't display anything?

That's interesting. I have a similar problem with a computer I decided to build from scrap parts, everything spins up. I think it's the CMOS battery itself that is causing the problem. On my system at least, maybe it's the cause for the problem on your system too

Alright so, I've done what is labled here

http://support.asus.com/Troubleshooting/detail.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=1&m=P5Q%20PRO&s=22&hashedid=qH6ZSEJ8EPY6HoNU&os=&no=1723

Which is basicly how to clear the cmos on the mobo.

But I've put the cap over the 2 pins to clear the cmos, Putting it back in 1-2 turns it on, but still don't post

You can clear the CMOS all you like, but if the battery is dead then it won't matter...
