I'm using an X99-Pro from Asus, and on the main EZMode page in the UEFI, there is a switch for "Intel Rapid Storage Technology"  On/Off.

At the moment, this is OFF. I am using an 840 Evo and 3x WD Black drives. I know a good deal about PCs and PC building, but in my research, I've never really found a concrete answer about what IRST is, and have always been a bit confused about it.

 

I remember on my old build (X58, Rampage III, i7-960), I'd followed someone optimization tips, and remembered having IRST ON and enabled. 

When I click on "ON" in my X99-Pro UEFI, this gives me a warning about switching to RAID Mode. I haven't fully committed to having it on, because I'm not quite sure what it'll do to my disks

 

My questions are:

 

-Are RAID Mode and IRST On one in the same? (confused)

-Will I see any benefit from having IRST turned on? (Can I even turn it on?)

Intel SRT is different to RST. SRT is for SSD caching. RST is for managing of raid drives, but it even enhanced performance of single drives. In the past when ssd are set at raid 0, you will rely on garbage collection, since raid 0 does not support trim. with the new rst, trim is supported. Ignore the message, just install the rst and if your drive are not set in raid, it will install the achi driver.

Damn that's confusing.

It's RST not SRT on the main bios page (ez-mode). For SRT, just install the Intel RST driver and in the RST control panel, you can enble SRT if you want. but IMO to save yourself the hassle of SRT, just by a hybrid drive because it's basically the same thing. uses the SSD portion as cache. Max size support for SRT is 64GB.
