Hi,

So i've been looking for a new notebook for college. It has to be able to handle games, since i need something powerfull enough to program them with c#.

My budget is around 1300 euro's, and i was considering the MSI GE62 2QC-232. As its pretty light (2,4Kg) for a gaming notebook, and a week ago a newer version launched here in the netherlands with the new broadwell i7 5700hq. Now i wanted to get this notebook immediatly, but ive been reading user reviews where people claim there often BSOD's (blue screen of death) occur , and that its because of the broadwell cpu.

My question is, should i buy the version with the broadwell cpu? or the haswell cpu?. Both have the same price and specifications, only the cpu is different.

Or does someone know MSI or Intel fixed this?

Before you ask, why not get a lenovo y50-70? No , i'm not going to buy something from lenovo.

Regards,

Broadwell is more power efficient. Performance is only slightly better on broadwell, but hardly noticable. With broadwell, you'll be able to stretch the battery use longer, but it's not that you will see more speed in real world situations.

If there's really a problem with the broadwell CPU, it'll either be addressed by MSI or Intel themselves, or you could just use the warranty if you have an issue yourself. So imo you can't go wrong really.

You can consider this

I believe that the performance difference between the 4720HQ and 5700HQ is not noticeable, and Clevos are awesome.

No it's not.

This is true.

No it won't.

No it's not. That's some other reason.

Up to you, but the best notebook is a P650SE.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

I was aiming for the P650SE at first, but there are no resellers from clevo (sager) in the netherlands :/

Configuring the A505 with the same specs as the MSI GE62 , will result in a higher price. 1346 (+shipping) euro's instead of 1299. Are there any significant advantages with buying the A505 instead of the MSI GE62?

The p505 is way out of my budget (1577), but it comes with the gtx 965m aswell

No thermal throttle is confirmed. You also get a PCIe M.2 slot. And 4 RAM slots, 2 SATA slots. IIRC, the GE62 has a 960M, while the P505 starts with a 965M and these two GPUs bring 2 different performance levels.

Yeah srry i was talking about the a505. The p505 is out of my budget, 1577 euro's is too much. Besides i dont need that extra horsepower. Its not like i want to play witcher 3 on high settings with this notebook. The only game i play is gw2, and i mainly use unity, microsoft visual studio 2011 and adobe photoshop.

The gtx 960m is good enough for me.

Also, i dont know how well the sevice is from schenker. I know they are a well known company in germany, but what if i have a defect? i cant go to my local tech store for that.

Try mysn.de as I think they're a bit cheaper than mysn.eu (which you were already linked to).

  • 4 weeks later...

The blue screen should come with DOTA 2 and Intel 5th Gen CPU, which have compatibility issue with each other.

There is a solution from the other forums.

Disable the Intel Speed Step and Virtualization Technology in BOIS; and update the latest Intel IRST from Intel website.

The issue should be fixed.

Perhaps, there should be a patch from Steam or Intel for this compatibility issue in the near future....
