Pascal is on the horizon don't make my mistake and just wait it out a little farther

i currently have a system without a GPU.
i5 4690k @4.35GHz
asus z97-pro gamer
8gb kingston hyperX fury

and i currenty have about 550€ and i want to know if its worth getting a new gpu now at the start of school year and which gpu if yes. or is it worth waiting for the next generation or wait untill i can afford a g1 980 ti?

Well, I honestly doubt that if you only have a 1080p monitor you'll need a GTX 980ti. However if you do have a 1440p, I'd go the R9 390 OR if you want 4K do a R9 390 crossfire (It would be a bit over your budget but would be awesome.) For 1080p I'd say the R9 390 aswell or possibly the R9 380 would be fine running most gamings at ultra settings.

Buy either an R9 390 or GTX 970 (according to your preferences and PSU).

980Ti is for 1440p 144Hz or 4K, it is very much overkill for 1080p and you don't really need it. But it's your cash, do as you will.

Don't wait, just get which ever GPU you want that's current.

You should upgrade your gpu when you're not satisfied with the experience anymore. Rule of thumb, 3 years.
