Hi guys,

So I'm soon to be moving into my own place and I've already been busy with the all the networking and devices in the home.
Read more on it here: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/428524-dual-gb-ethernet-from-router-to-switch

But this thread is specifically about the server.
I want a server for gaming, so being able to run a csgo server, teamspeak, minecraft, maybe some webhosting.
Not all at the same time, so it's probably not that heavy but it needs to be a bit futureproof/expandable.

So I preferably want a prebuilt one has good enough specs for the future.
But I myself am not so at home in the world over server grade processors/motherboards, so I thought I'd just ask.

Gaming server, rack mountable, price between 1000 en 1500 max.

What do you guys think is the best?
Let me know!

Thx, James

the issue is rackmountable in itself means expensive.

and -from experience- you'll want some pretty juicy processing power for a minecraft server.

it does depend on what exactly the minecraft server will look like. (rest of it is mostly small stuff compared to minecraft)

(EDIT: i sniffed around your other thread, telenet master race? :P)

EDIT: @JamesBE follow your topics.

Why do you need it to be rack mountable? The cases are expensive AF and just plain suck at cooling. Not to mention the rack itself. A 19" rack will cost you hundreds of dollars without any sort of plating for dust/noise protection. I'd get a good tower ATX any time of the day over a 4U.

Dell PowerEdge R220 (1U). Intel Xeon 1241 v3 and 16-32GB RAM would serve you for a long time. Your config probably won't exceed 1200 €. Keep in mind these things are loud. If you're looking for a quiet solution, then something like a custom 4U case with consumer based hardware would fit your bill.

http://www.dell.com/us/business/p/poweredge-t110-2/fs That would work perfectly, just get the build with the best cpu (or one you think you need) and add more memory and storage as you need.

If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough it will be believed.

I'd be most concerned about the requirements for the cs server. I'm really not sure what it takes now but just 4 years ago I was responsible for a 24 player cs source server. Just to keep the play consistent we had to drop it to 64 tick and run it on a platform with dual xeon.
