  1. @Trevor87 The original PSU was a LC power LC6650GP3. Some obscure 650W PSU . But for testing purposes, I'm using a corsair TX650.
  2. Hey guys, I've got a bit of a problem. So a few weeks ago the PC i built for my brother suddenly died. I went to the pc repair shop and they said it probably was the mobo that died, but seeing it is an 1155 socket cpu, they don't sell those anymore. So I went to Ebay, bought myself a new Asus P8Z68-V Pro as a replacement. (I already bought a cheap ass micro atx mobo, but that didn't work at all). So I thought, new mobo, everything should work just fine now. Alas, I just don't get any image from the setup. I used the 1080p monitor that's hooked up to my personal rig to test, on HDMI and DVI, internal graphics and GPU seprate. Nothing seems to give any image... So I'm a bit out of my depth here. I think my next solution would be buy a new mobo+CPU all together, but I'd like to check here first. Any suggestions? I'll give you all the specs: Mobo (dead): Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H Mobo (new): Asus P8Z68-V Pro CPU: Intel i5-3450 RAM: 2 x Kingston KVR1333D3N9/4G GPU: Sapphire HD 7770 HDD: Western Digital Green 2TB Any help is welcome! Thx, James
  3. @nicco Had the same issue. I also disabled xHCI and it worked fine. I also tried plugging the pass-through USB in a USB3.0 port (instead of 2.0 where it was before), and that also did the trick for some reason... Anyways, thanks for the tip!
  4. Holy damn, I totally overlooked that. I was just staring at that SSD section In any case, I already bought it and it works! Had some issues with installing though. First wanted to clone my whole boot partition, but for some reason it didn't want the boot part. Then I tried installing windows 8 on it separately. Then he said he couldn't boot into it or something. Googled some, disconnected all my other drives, worked like a charm. But I saw posts from people who where looking for this for weeks, so I'm pretty happy with the outcome So thanks in any case! James PS: Oh yeah, I'll just drop a CrystalDiskMark bench here...
  5. Hi guys, So I was thinking about upgrading my old 2-in-1 HDD/SDD combo (which I have countless stutter issues with becasue of bad drivers) to a fully fledged SSD. My motherboard (Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 5) has an M.2 slot and I was thinking to put a 512GB Samsung 950 Pro in it. But I was browsing the web for some reviews, and one of the things I heard was that it uses the newer NVME protocol and that older CPU/Motherboards wouldn't be able to boot from it (which is my plan acutally). I went and checked the SSD support list, but there are only SATA SSD's there, so I'm not quite sure if I'd be able to boot from it. Some insight from someone more experienced in this would be amazing! Thanks already!, James PS: Oh yeah, more PC specs CPUIntel i7 4790K MotherboardGigabyte GA-Z97X Gaming 5 RAM32GB HyperX Savage GPU2 x GTX 970 SLI
  6. Hi guys, So I'm soon to be moving into my own place and I've already been busy with the all the networking and devices in the home. Read more on it here: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/428524-dual-gb-ethernet-from-router-to-switch But this thread is specifically about the server. I want a server for gaming, so being able to run a csgo server, teamspeak, minecraft, maybe some webhosting. Not all at the same time, so it's probably not that heavy but it needs to be a bit futureproof/expandable. So I preferably want a prebuilt one has good enough specs for the future. But I myself am not so at home in the world over server grade processors/motherboards, so I thought I'd just ask. Gaming server, rack mountable, price between 1000 en 1500 max. What do you guys think is the best? Let me know! Thx, James
  7. First of all, thank you guys for the response! I know we still have a spool of about 200 meters cat 7 at my work, so I'll check if I can get some of that for home @dalekphalm Btw, the extra switches are for future expandability without pulling 5 cables to each room (I'm renting a house, so my landlord wouldn't be too happy with that I'm afraid)> @skywake so you'd rather split up the devices by their need for internet or internal network? It's something worth considering. You wouldn't recommend the double line router > switch? @unijab @schizznick do you need these features on both router and switch? Because I'm stuck with a standard router from my ISP that goes coax straight into my router. I looked around in the menu and didn't find anything remotely suggesting this was a possibility with this router. Or can you just have a managed switch, manage these two incoming data streams? Again, thanks guys! Grts
  8. Hi guys, In about two months I'm officially moving out of my parents house, and into my own house in the city. So I am fully planning all the network at the moment. Here is a little diagram of how the situation is gonna (eventually). Note: I'm cabling everything with cat 6E or cat 7, not sure yet. As you can see, I drew 2 cables from my router to my switch, seeing that my switch is going to be the heart of this network and I can get fast internet speeds to all devices connected. First question, is it possible to just connect two and double your bandwidth? I read something about managed switches, but am not quite clear on that... Second question, if this is possible, is it overkill, considering that there is going a lot of data transfer by 4-5 heavy internet users? There would also be 1 ethernet cable to every other room, straight from the switch. Third question, from the TV switch, I drew two cables. One straight to the router for the internet use of the roku and playstation. The other cable goes to the switch and is for streaming from the NAS to the roku. Again the question, is this overkill, or would it be usefull. Btw, would the internet traffic automatically go to the router and the rest to the switch, of do you still need to configure this in some way. Alright that's about it for the moment. If you have any answers or suggestions, let me know! Grts, James
  9. Hi, So, I just discovered that end of last year EVGA had a promotion that you could get a free backplate for your 970, which I of course overlooked completely. So I'm looking into getting some for my 970's, but I was wodering. Do these backplates help cooling at all? Seeing that there are some thermal pads on the RAM modules on that side op the GPU. Does anyone have "solid" proof of the efficiency? Proof of badassness I do not need. I'm already convinced of that Thanks guys. James
  10. CableMod has exactly what I was looking for. Thanks @Nielips I'll also check the other options. Thanks guys!
  11. Looking for a whole kit. I have the Corsair AX760i modular PSU, so I think it's more useful/beautiful to just replace everything at once. Back of the PSU for reference:
  12. Hi guys, So I once saw a video where a guy used custom individually braided power cables running from the power supply to the motherboard and GPU's etc. At the bottom I've included an example. I've been looking a bit around, but can't seem to find anywhere to buy it. So do you guys know a shop that sells this? Preferably in Belgium/Europe region. Or at least shipping here. Thanks, James
  13. Alright, that seems to have done it! Problem lies with the WD Black2 hard drive. Amazing, just had to update the firmware of the hard drive and now everything runs butter smooth as it should! Seems it wasn't a 970 issue after all! Thanks guys, and thank you @Ellis_D. Have a great day! James
  14. So that's what I thought @Ellis_D so I reinstalled Grid 2 (which was the most horrible game as you can see) but that didn't do anything. But that SSD runs over the same SATA connection as the HDD seeing it's a combo with 2 partitions. I don't know if that should/could matter. I don't have a spare SSD lying around, so I should buy one to test it. But I don't wanna buy one without knowing it's going to work. I do have a WD Blue spare, but that is going to be the same problem I guess, right?
  15. I did a CrystalDiskMark test with the two partitions separately, and these are the results. Games are running from E: disk. Could that be the problem?
