Hi everyone,

so right to the point... here's the issue:

Bought a Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD4H a couple weeks after haswell lauched and now the onboard sound seems to be completely broken.

Yesterday everything worked just fine.. booted my system this afternoon and nothing but noise and static on the headphones.

What I already did/checked:

- headphones work fine ( tested on other device )

- deleted driver and reinstalled ( no change )

- rebooted several times in the process of the above

- updated the bios ( mainly because I found a new version while looking for drivers )

- unplugged all sound devices and tested each port on its own ( noise everywhere -.- )

- unplugged the system from the wall and waited about 30sec before pluging it back in

- booted into some Linux live OS with no changes aswell...

after reflashing the bios I had sound on the right and noise on the left ear for about a minute or so, then it went back to just noise -.-

as another side note ... I'm currently using the sound my graphics card provides via HDMI ... as this is independent it works fine ...

Stuff I didn't try (yet):

- unplugging EVERYTHING ( my system is kind of inside my desk and unplugging stuff to open the case is a huge hassle so I'll try that next weekend )

Any suggestions on what might be causing this? Did the chip somehow get fried over night o.O?!

Hope this is fixable because RMA is a huge pain in my area Q.Q

Thanks in advance! ;-)

after flashing it my booting order was reset so I assumed it had reset all the settings but I'll definetly try resetting it manually ... thanks

Let me know if that helped.

so... yeah ...

what's the worst kind of computer problem? - the one that resolves itself! ( or pretends to do so )

I have no idea at all what caused the whole thing ....

had the system shutdown for the night and guess what today it works or ... WORKED for about 15 minutes -.-

just as I started typing this reply to tell you that it's fixed ... BOOM ... loud crackling noise and it's back to where it left off ...

well not exactly because I can still hear ne music through the noise

OK ... while still typing this I switched to another song ... heard a loud bang and noise is gone again

stuff that can't make up its mind if it's broken or not is just the worst !!!

I'll have to keep experimenting to find the cause of this but for now it kind of randomly jumps back and forth

I'll just see what happens in the next couple of days and post the results

It might be the 3.5mm jack of your speakers, try changing it if it is possible.

Audio jack might be damaged. I doubt that you can fix this yourself. There is definitely something broken.

I agree.  This definitely sounds like some sort of physical contact is damaged or not entirely plugged in.  Check your audio connections and kind of move around your audio cables to see if you can get it to make some noise.

whatever happened ... now it seems to be gone...

almost a week without hickups

only thing I can think of that might have caused this is some kind of electromagnetic charge in some component

which then went away while the system was off over night

or maybe just unplugging and replugging stuff magically fixed everything ...

Probably one of the capacitor wasn't discharging, my pure guess :)

update ... had enough of this BS ... buying Asus Xonar card ... about time to switch to a decent soundcard anyway ...

Should consider an external dac/amp option if you are into audio quality and music listening.
