New windows install detect programs installed of another drive from old pc

Schmittez

Basically I have just change out the CPU/Mobo/RAM and put a new boot M.2 SSD in and have the old boot drive and storage hdd and all the stuff is on there and appears to work fine for the most part but none of the programs are found when doing a search or in the uninstall/change program application, is there a way for me to get windows to detect theses installed programs of do I have to reinstall them for them to show up when searched in the start menu and the uninstall/change programs list

So judging by your topic there is a program that is already installed on your PC? Please don't just throw topic names as facts and deliver them as a question without proper sentence.

And the answer is no, after format everything is gone. YOu have to install everything back.

since you changed the base hard drive youre registry is missing, you will need to reinstall anything you have on the secondary hard drive

No. You'll have to reinstall most (if not all) programs.

I only know of a handful of apps that don't require reinstalling. One of them is Steam, most others are games (specifically blizzard games, although you have to reinstall the battle.net client)

yes, you would need to make a clone of the old hard drive on to the new one you want to use it will have the same registry and everything so all of the programs installed on the secondary hard drive will still run

It's not possible - when you install a program, it makes changes to the windows registry as well as copying files, and you won't be able to find the list of changes that you need to make to the registry for it to work. You're going to have to install them from scratch I'm afraid.

Not really true. Well true in sense that everything is gone after format. But if 2nd drive is left alone, everything is still there. And most of those programs will work.

So almost all software installed on secondary drive will launch. They will use default settings, since config files are stored at AppData and Documents folders, which are wiped during format and reinstall. You can backup those settings and get almost everything working quite easily.

What you don't get is listing to Remove Software or Start Menu. Remove Software would be same as deleting all folders manually, so that can be disregarded. Start Menu you can get to work two ways. One is to pin shortcut to it. Another is to launch from .exe enough times for Windows to think that file is frequently used.

Still, reinstall is best option if you don't like to tweak everything.

Programs stay, registry is changed, everything can be crippled and bugged. You think I didn't do it before? lol

I'm using about half of my daily software from old windows install. But I also backup AppData by default.
