Question about Steam games

So I'm just browsing, looking through some games for the PC and find the list of capable players. Now my question is, when it says "Multiplayer" does that mean only online with someone with the same game or LAN or what? Also, when it says "Local Co-Op" is that like split screen on the same pc or whats the difference from "Local co-op" with "co-op"?

Local Co-op would be like playing at LAN.

Local Co-op would be over LAN; Multiplayer would be over the Internet.

 

Split Screen really isn't a thing on PC, unfortunately.

It depends on the game. It's not just with Steam. Some game devlopers will group LAN in with multiplayer and other will not. Most PC games with Local Games actually mean LAN because it can be quite hard to split some games on one monitor, or maybe even for other reasons. Most computers only have one seat close enough to play a game.

Monaco has "local coop" and it means that 2 people can play on the same computer. Not split screen but both characters at the same time.
