good web server

why?

Home connections are generally far slower and have weaker routers, meaning that the website will load slower globally, and it'll be even worse if you try to use it for yourself. If you got a lot of traffic at once then it would slow down to a snail's pace if it even continued to work.

The only real benefit is you could get a super fast connection to the server because you'd be on the same connection as it.

And then this.

- bandwidth

- data usage

- security

- more security

- even more security

Sig under construction.

You could get away with using a Raspberry Pi as a webserver, but you're most likely far far far better off using a web hosting company, especially if you don't know what you're doing

I use a raspberry pi as a webserver, it's not as slow as you think. For media heavy websites (trust me, I'm a big fan of eye-candy) it manages to hold up. Don't expect it to survive a DDoS though.

Speedtests

WiFi - 7ms, 22Mb down, 10Mb up

Ethernet - 6ms, 47.5Mb down, 9.7Mb up

get a decent webhost.

and i'll tell you why: go to this website: http://www.via.com.tw/en/index.jsp

how fast does it load? does that give you a feeling of trust in this company?

on top of that: bandwidth, data usage, security, more security, and even more security.

the pi 2 is actually fairly powerful, but i cannot stress this enough:

>>NEVER HOST ANYTHING PUBLIC ON YOUR HOME CONNECTION<<

Why? I've been doing so for over a year with no problems whatsoever

wait will it die if there is a DDoS?

No it'll just slow down to a crawl in my experiences. I use Lighttpd so it starts dropping packets at around 1000 connections

Invest a little and do it right.  DON'T host a website on your home connection.  The primary reasons are slow upload speeds (The fastest cable connections in the US get 150 mbit down, but only 10 mbit up...and they block web server traffic anyway) and poor security (do you bank on that machine?  you could be exposing your bank account if your web server gets compromised).

BTW, for those interested, with the right setup, a Raspberry Pi (original, not the 2) was set up to host over 1 million visits per month.  Not that you should ever do that...but just goes to show.

Anyways, OP if you are serious about your business, consider whatever minuscule hosting fees it costs an investment.  If you believe it to be too much of a cost, rethink your business model.

Btw, signed:  A small business owner.

wait will it die if there is a DDoS?

the goal of a DDoS is to make network equipment or the server itself overloaded, and potentially crash.

remember when jay launched his forums and got ddosed? they actually had to call sysadmins out of their bed to reset routers in the datacenter.

and their stuff is built for it.

if you host at home (which you're technically not allowed on a home connection) and get DDoSed, your ISP wont be happy.
