Hi guys, I'm looking into buying some LEDs for my new gaming rig. I want to find out which type would be best for me, the 3528, 5050 or the 5630? The price difference isn't that big so I'd don't mind on spending a bit more. My second question is where to put them? I have a Phanteks Enthoo Pro black case with a window and PSU cover. My first plan was to get the 5050 and put the at the top and bottom but then I read that the 5630 are better because you can just turn down the brightness. My PC in general is black with white elements. I plan to get RBG LEDs with a 44key IR remote just incase I ever want to go mad with the colours xD (Mostly to look cool heheh)

Thanks, Bulky

-SNIP-

SMD 5050 LED chips are ideal since they are tri-chips if you want RGB version and as  single color versions give much more light in a single package. All those LED's are controllable by brightness via voltage or PWM control so you should have a reasonable range of control and color mixing.

I want to get a RBG strip, controller and remote. More flexibility and I like the idea of the remote. I also wanted the whole thing to be hidden under the PSU cover with just the strips on the outside.

Ebay has some really cheap remote controlled led strips. I picked up a 5m strip for $15 and it was RGB. Worth having a look.

Ones like theses from Amazon are not bad and work via 12V, one thing to note is with RGB lights they don't do white light very well since it's mixing all three colors to achieve, if you want a clean and no dirty white there are RGBW that include a white diode in the chip.

Thanks, that's a bit cheaper than the ones I looked at. :P

One more thing about those tho... What is RBGWW and IP65?

RGBW means it has three colors in a single chip the regular red, green and blue to produce all the possible colors but also a white chip to create very clean white light since regular RGB lights mix the three colors giving a "dirty" white color as many refer to it as. For IP 65 it's a rating for dust and water resistance. so it would be considered waterproof to a certain degree.

Alright thanks. :P I don't really trust "considered waterproof to a certain degree. "  so I'm not going to stick it in water xD

If I just use red for example. Will that change anything between RBG and RBGW? Can I turn down the white fully?

With RGB you will have multiple lights on a strip. There will be red LEDS, blue and green ones. When you click Red for example only the red ones will turn on and the rest will be off, same will go for blue and green. When you want white all turn on leading to red blue and green combining. With the RGBW, the led diode turns white itself instead of all 3 turning on to combine. So it wouldn't matter which ones you get. All will work the same :) As for turning the white down, most remote have brightness up and down button.

If your just using red it would turn off all other colors except the red diode, and say if you want purple it will only have the red and blue turned on, white should only be used for regular white light. Yeah those strips are consider good for submersion for a few mins but I probably wouldn't want to do that maybe in a humid environment at most like a bathroom or kitchen.
