New to NAS - Any thoughts on this 20TB UNraid build?

Hello LinusTechTipians, I'm planning on building my first NAS. It'll consist of 6 4-Terabyte WD Red Drives which will give me ~20TB of storage space on the build. I'm totally new to this stuff, and even though I've been doing some research, I'm still a bit unsure about this build. I'd love some feedback from you guys. Any & all input is greatly appreciated!!!

Here's a link to my Newegg parts lists (PCPartPicker only has like 2 SuperMicro Mobos on it, and very little ECC ram, so I went straight to newegg):

M-ATX: I3-3240

M-ITX: Pentium G3258

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=21547309

EDIT:

I'm Going with the M-ITX build in all likelihood.

Is there any reason why you chose Ivy Bridge in the first list? Why not Haswell?

Both lists look pretty good to me though.

Just make sure you run fans over those HGST NAS drives. They run on the hotter side of drives.

There was no particular reason, I was just trying to keep the price relatively low. Also, thank you! I'm glad my research wasn't all for naught.

Actually, yeah, cost wast my only reason for the first one, I wanted to keep it as low as possible.

You might consider a single stick of 8GB 1600MHz ECC DDR3 instead of two sticks of 4GB. It might be cheaper. Or look at a 2 x 4GB set instead of buying two separate sticks of 4GB.

Just swapped it out to a single 8GB 1600mhz ECC so I can upgrade to 16gb in the future (although I doubt I'll ever need to for what I'll be using this build for).

Hey there :)

What are you going to do with the NAS. If it's for simple storage you shouldn't have problems working with this setup. WD red drives are great for this purpose. It really depends on what you need the NAS for. Regular cloud access and simple network storage should work like a charm with these parts. If you plan on doing more demanding things, I'd suggest to first check the specific hardware requirements and then see what you can afford and fit that will meet the required parts.

Have you considered a pre-built NAS solution? They are far easier to set up and manage. Here's some options from WD: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=ZJr5wE

If this helped you, like and choose it as best answer - you might help someone else with the same issue. ^_^
