When doing a search in Windows 10, it only searches programs and files, but NOT control panel settings, settings or Store apps.

For example, I can search "Control Panel" and it will show the Control Panel, but if I search "Mouse" or "Display" it returns only web search results.

If I search within the new Settings app, it returns NO RESULTS whatsoever, no matter what I search.

I WAS able to search for these things when I fist upgraded to Windows 10, although it has stopped recently for some reason.

Any ideas why, or how I can fix this?

So far I have restarted Windows, restared the Search service and tried fiddling with Indexing options (I traditionally have Indexing turned off, as I have only SSDs).

I can't turn on Cortana, because Australia, so only standard search.

Also, I've heard other people saying they can search for Windows Store apps with the Windows Search bar/button? I've never been able to do this.

Thanks for any help guys

Strange, works for me...

Personally, I had an issue where the Search simply wasn't working at all, where after searching, nothing would come up, not even web search, it would just be a big empty space with three dots at the top with a "loading animation" on them.

The way I somehow fixed it, is opening Task Manager, go in the Details panel, find SearchUI.exe (description is "Search and Cortana Application"), see that it was "suspended", left click on it, End Task. Then after starting a new search, it would start working again somehow. So you could try that, but I see you restarted the search service, that should technically be the same... I think

Just had a look, my "SearchUI.exe" was also suspended. But after ending it, just went back to normal.

My search DOES work, just not how I want it too...

Here is what I mean:

Desktop PC where Search won't search settings:

and my tablet which DOES work (sorry for potato camera, no keyboard so couldn't screenshot)

Some things to note in differences:

My tablet (potato) is running Technical Preview Build 10525 and uses developer mode, whereas Desktop PC is normal Windows 10, no developer mode (which now that I think about it, I will try that now and see if that changes anything).

Edit: Developer options did nothing.

Have you tried rebuilding the index?

Because you do technically need Indexing to see those settings in search and honestly, just leave Indexing on.. Your SSD won't die tomorrow for a few KB of data from indexing. By the time it's even close to dying (most likely 5 to 10 years from now depending on how much you write on it), you will have probably changed it by then anyway.

OK thanks, I'm trying that now and will report back once it has Indexed everything.

So, I have tried everything I could (without "resetting Windows") and nothing has worked for me so far. Tried scouring and even asking my own question on the Microsoft support site. All they have for me is a couple command prompt commands and Powershell commands, none of which helped out at all.

I am positively stumped as to how I can fix this.
