MSI 990FX GD80 is your best bet....and the best MSI AM3+ board.....others are mostly shit due to shitty mosfets.

^ If you want something reliable and new your best bet is a GA-990FXA rev 4.0 or 4.1...

Like @Bubblewhale said, the MSI 990FX GD80 looks nice. There's also the Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 that's a bit lower end but still capable.

I dont care for intel they both do the same things

Not really Intel is a way better choice and AM3+ is a dead socket

Best is the Asus ROG Crosshair Formula, second best is the Asus 990FX R2.0 Sabertooth. These two boards are the only two boards able to handle the 220w TDP FX 9xxx series CPUs.

I had the Sabertooth R2.0 myself. There is simply nothing on that board that is not damn fucking solid. Never let me down, it just kept going on the OC...

Bios was user friendly and well laid out.... Simply a damn good boards

AM3+ is a dead socket with no meaningful upgrades once you get a FX CPU there isn't really anything worth upgrading above that. LGA 1150 is better and provides way more options and on board features

Depends on the game. But yes majority the i5 is best but if its i3 or weaker I say go for AMD! :D

Unless he's doing a lot computing rendering and what not (that's where AMD fx cpus shine) then I would just go for a cheap i5
